Asbjørn is highly specialized in the state aid rules and the competition rules in Denmark and the EU. Asbjørn has extensive experience with all aspects of these rules and with a number of connected areas of law such as the rules on damages and the criminal justice rules.
Asbjørn has particularly extensive experience with the competition law rules for dominant undertakings, where Asbjørn’s work has been highly focused on court cases concerning the most complex legal and economic issues in the area for a number of years.
Experience from the most recognized firms
Asbjørn has experience from several of the most recognized law firms within EU and competition law in Denmark. Asbjørn has worked as an attorney at both Plesner og and Bech-Bruun, both of which have been rated as top tier in Denmark by leading international ratings agencies.
Asbjørn has also worked in the legal service of Ørsted (formerly DONG Energy), one of Denmark’s largest and most regulated companies. Asbjørn advised Ørsted on e.g. competition law matters in connection with Ørsted’s highly publicized wind farm projects.

Experience from the biggest and most complex cases
Throughout his whole career, Asbjørn has worked with the most high-value, large-scale, and legally complex cases within his areas of specialization.
Within competition law, Asbjørn has e.g. assisted with the biggest competition law damages case in Danish history, where more than 1,100 companies claimed billions in damages in a matter concerning excessive prices with such complexity that the case spanned more than 10 years and more court days than any other Danish competition law case.
Within state aid law, Asbjørn has assisted with several of the biggest and most high-profile cases in Denmark. Asbjørn assisted with the state aid handling of the most publicized privatization of a publicly owned Danish company in the last 10 years, and Asbjørn has assisted with one of the biggest state aid damages cases in Europe, which concerns unlawful aid to a Danish media company, for a number of years.
Extensive experience with competition economics
From his work with the rules for dominant companies, Asbjørn has built up considerable experience with the issues of competition economics that are crucial to many competition law cases. On a number of occasions, Asbjørn has also assisted in connection with court appointed expert opinion procedures concerning economic issues in competition law cases, both in relation to the effects of a company’s behavior on a market and in relation to assessments of losses as a result of competition law violations.
Because of this, Asbjørn can assist with any and all competition law cases involving complex economic issues.
Comprehensive knowledge of the energy industry
Asbjørn has worked intensively with the energy industry for a large part of his career. Asbjørn has worked at the legal service of Ørsted, Denmark’s energy incumbent, and has worked on the biggest competition law cases concerning the energy market in Denmark.
Asbjørn therefore has a very thorough knowledge of the energy industry, including the regulation of the energy markets in Denmark and abroad, the workings of the Nordic energy exchanges, commercial conditions on the European energy markets, and technical issues in connection with energy generation and distribution.
